Learning Disability Today 2012 shortlisted for Conference Awards

LDT exhibitionPavilion’s 2012 Learning Disability Today conference has been shortlisted for the upcoming Conference Awards 2013, under the category ‘Best Conference alongside an Exhibition’.

Learning Disability Today is 1 of 5 shortlisted entries with the winner being announced on June 7 at the Conference Awards ceremony.

The 2012 conference was held on November 28 last year at Olympia in London and in a single day attracted 1,500 delegates, 60 exhibitors and 68 speakers.

Testament to the quality of learning disability speakers
The event offers an opportunity for professionals, people with learning disabilities and their carers to meet in one place and discuss topical policy and practical issues.

Against a backdrop of funding cuts and the Winterbourne View abuse scandal, the Learning Disability Today 2012 conference was updated to create a more forward-looking and positive day. A key focus of the event was the ‘reasons to be cheerful’ theme which involved describing ways to improve the quality of life within a small budget.

Dan Parton, editor of Learning Disability Today magazine, said: “This nomination is a great reward for all the hard work put in by the events team to last year’s event and a testament to the quality of the speakers and exhibitors at the event.”

The next Learning Disability Today event will take place on May 14 at Sheffield’s Hillsborough Stadium.
