New autism film resource for teachers

Education charity Filmclub has released a new resource for teachers on the subject of autism and other related conditions.

The resource, Autism on Film – a Filmclub Guide, includes five films – Mary and Max, A Is For Autism, The Lost Prince, Her Name Is Sabine and Rain Man – looking at what it means to have autism. Each film is accompanied by a synopsis, discussion points and review starters to ensure the themes can be fully explored. The National Autistic Society (NAS) has welcomed the initiative.

The NAS’ chief executive, Mark Lever, said: “By giving both teachers and pupils the chance to learn more about autism, Filmclub’s autism guide can help tackle the lack of understanding that many children with autism face. “Autism is much more common than most people think – there are around 88,000 schoolchildren in the UK with the condition, so the more people understand about it, the better. “43% pupils interviewed for our recent education campaign felt that their teachers didn’t know enough about autism. Guides like this can go a long way towards changing that statistic.”

The resources are available for Filmclub members to download for free. Click here for more information
