The National Autistic Society (NAS) is launching the Autism Professional Awards next year to recognise and reward cross-discipline professionals who are leading the way in innovative autism practice.

There are 6 awards up for grabs; 2 celebrating individual professional achievement and 4 recognising good practice by teams or organisations.

The categories are:
• Individual achievement by education professional
• Individual lifetime achievement
• Inspirational education provision
• Outstanding adult service
• Clinical excellence
• Innovative family support.

The Awards will be presented at the charity’s annual Professionals Conference on March 5, 2013, at The Majestic Hotel in Harrogate. The judging panel will comprise leading autism experts from a variety of professional backgrounds.

Carol Povey, director of the Centre for Autism at the NAS, said: “With yet another year of cutbacks in funding and resources, we wanted to focus on the positives of what is being done to improve the lives of people with autism. By celebrating the creative and innovative work that’s happening across the UK and worldwide, we can gain the inspiration and motivation to keep multiplying our efforts and ensure that people with autism get to live the life they choose.”

The closing date for entries is November 16. To find out more information about the Awards or to make a nomination go to: www.autismprofessionalsawards.org.uk
