Despicable Me 2Animated sequels Despicable Me 2 and Monsters University, and teen dance movie All Stars are to be this month’s Autism Friendly Films.

The films will be shown at participating ODEON, Vue and Cineworld cinemas.

From this month, an increased number of Cineworld cinemas – 61 – will be taking part in the Autism Friendly Films initiative. They will show Despicable Me 2 on Sunday, July 7 at 11am.

Meanwhile, ODEON will show Monsters University at 11am on Sunday, July 21. Cinema-goers should note that this screening will include a short film directly before the film begins.

Finally, Vue cinemas will show All Stars on Sunday, July 28 at 10am. As with previous months, this screening will be priced at Vue’s Kids AM rate of £1.75.

In family comedy Despicable Me 2, Gru – the former villain now enjoying life as a father to his three adopted daughters – is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a powerful new super criminal.

Meanwhile, Monsters University tells the story of how Mike and Sulley from Monsters, Inc met – and that they weren’t always the best of friends.

Finally, All Stars sees two teens plan to throw an ambitious dance show in order to save their struggling youth centre from closure.

Sensory friendly environment

Autism Friendly Screenings are mainstream films shown in a sensory friendly environment. Lights are on low, sound is turned down, trailers are omitted and people can bring their own food, make noise and move around the cinema as they feel comfortable. The scheme is run by service provider Dimensions.
