New report highlights cuts in services

Social care cuts are increasing, a report by the Learning Disability Coalition (LDC) has discovered. The LDC – a coalition of 14 charities – carried out a survey of local authorities in England and discovered that 90% have less money than a year ago, and twice as many (20% compared to 10%) are cutting services compared to last year. The report, ‘Social Care – the continuing crisis’ also includes responses from families, carers and people with learning disabilities. It says that:

  • 33% had been contacted by their local authority regarding an increase to eligibility criteria
  • 27% has been contacted by their local authority about an increase to service charges
  • 20% had been told their hours of care had been reduced.
