The annual Shifting Perspectives photographic exhibition, which questions general views of what living with Down’s syndrome means to individuals, families and friends, has opened in London.
Shifting Perspectives explores the photographic representation of people with Down’s syndrome, challenging attitudes and prejudices and examining alternative representations of adults, children and the unborn. Now in its seventh year at the gallery@oxo, the photographers seek to transform the way that Down’s syndrome is viewed through the medium of contemporary photography.
Richard Bailey, exhibition curator says, “Twenty years ago images such as these would have been neither seen nor made.”
This year the exhibition includes new work by Richard Bailey, Fiona Bailey, Kayte Brimacombe, Fiona Yaron-Field and other guest photographers.
The exhibition is hosted by the Down’s Syndrome Association and funded by pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline. Shifting Perspectives is on until March 27, 11am – 6pm daily at the gallery@oxo, Oxo Tower Wharf, Bargehouse Street, London SE1 9PH. Admission is free.
