Researchers at the Tizard Centre are looking for volunteers to take part in research into domestic violence against women with learning disabilities – an area which is under-researched in the UK.
The aim of the research, which is led by Dr Michelle McCarthy, a senior lecturer and researcher at the Tizard Centre, University of Kent, is to learn more about the experiences of women with learning disabilities and to identify ways of improving the support available to them and its accessibility.
Researchers are currently carrying out in-depth, one-to-one interviews with women with learning disabilities who have experienced domestic violence and would like to hear from any women in the Kent and southeast areas of London who can help with the research.
To take part in an interview, women must:
• Be over 18 years of age
• Have mild or moderate learning disabilities
• Have recent experience – within past 5 years – of domestic violence with an intimate partner/boyfriend or spouse
• No longer be in a relationship with the abuser.
