Manchester dance project wins Big Lottery funding

A Manchester-based dance project for people with learning disabilities received some Christmas cheer after being selected to receive a grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All Programme in December. Dance Syndrome was awarded £8,875 at an awards ceremony held by the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation in London.

The organisation will use the grant to run a tour of fun peer-led workshops in Chorley, Eccles, Oldham and Salford. It aims to develop partnerships with regional organisations to create unique and exciting dance opportunities for others across the region that experience social exclusion from mainstream activities.

Project leader Jenny Blackwell said: “We are over the moon to get this award. We are going to spend the money on more workshops. Dancing makes me happy. It makes me smile. The workshops will help others express themselves and enjoy social time to make best mates.”
