Cheerio to Bradford’s cheerleaders

A Bradford-based cheerleading group plans to ‘Bring It On’ when they compete at the World Championships in Disney World, Florida.

The Jewels, set up by Bradford District Care Trust for people with a range of learning, sensory and physical disabilities, wowed the Future Cheer International Cheerleading Championships last May – and have now set their sights on World Championship glory.

Andy Waller, project manager at the Trust, said: “It’s testament to the cheerleaders’ and support team’s dedication, commitment, ability and enthusiasm that we have been chosen to dance on the world stage. “It’s absolutely amazing that we have all been able to work together to introduce an innovative programme that has enabled people with learning disabilities to become cheerleaders and represent the UK in America.”

Cheerleader Zil Haque said: “We can’t wait to go to Florida. I’m really excited. We are going to do our best performance ever! I absolutely love cheerleading!”

Coach Bernie Nunn said: “The Jewels have been working really hard to prepare for the World Championships but they are loving every minute of it. We can’t wait to get out there and show everyone how far the team has come.”
