Special Olympics GB announce 116 athletes heading to 2015 World Summer Games

More than 100 athletes have been chosen to represent Special Olympics Great Britain at next year’s World Summer Games in Los Angeles, the four yearly-global showpiece event for Special Olympics. In total, 7,000 athletes from 177 countries – along with 3,000 coaches, 30,000 volunteers and an anticipated 500,000 spectators – will take part in the Games. The opening ceremony is expected to attract 80,000 spectators, including the honorary chair of the Games, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti and California governor Jerry Brown are serving as honorary hosts for the Games. Janet Froetscher,
