The Book of Life, Dolphin Tale 2, Nativity 3 and The Nut Job will be November’s Autism Friendly Films, service provider Dimensions has announced.
In addition, ODEON is continuing its limited pilot of a film for older audiences, showing the 12A-rated film Interstellar 2D in 10 cinemas. The film will be shown on Monday, November 17 at 6pm.
Cineworld cinemas will be showing The Book of Life on Sunday November 2 at 11am. The following Sunday, Showcase will screen Dolphin Tale 2 at 10am. On November 16 at 11.30am, ODEON will show Nativity 3. Finally, Vue cinemas will show The Nut Job on Sunday, November 30 at 10am for just £1.75.
In animated adventure The Book of Life, young Manolo has to choose between family expectations and following his heart. He also wants to win the affections of Maria. But in order to do so, he first must travel through three fantastical worlds and face his greatest fears.
Meanwhile, Dolphin Tale 2 picks up the story some years after the first film ended. Now, Winter, the dolphin rescued in the first film, is alone at Clearwater Marine Hospital following the death of her elderly surrogate mother. However, Winter cannot be housed alone as dolphins’ social behaviour requires them to be paired with other dolphins, according to US Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations. So the team at Clearwater face a race against time to find another dolphin before they lose Winter to another aquarium.
Comedy film Nativity 3 – subtitled Dude, Where’s my Donkey? – see the return of the pupils of St Bernadette’s and the madcap Mr Poppy. This time, when their new teacher Mr Shepherd loses his memory, as well as Archie the Donkey, it’s up to them in a race against time to save the day and reunite him with his fiancée in New York.
In The Nut Job, Surly the Squirrel is exiled from his animal community in a city park after his caper leads to their winter food stock being destroyed. But on the streets Surly discovers a nut shop and makes plans to raid it. Meanwhile, back in the park, squirrels Andie and Grayson are charged by Racoon to find a new food source. After bumping into Surly, Andie agrees to help with his heist to help the colony. But things are complicated as the nut store is a front for bank robbers, and, inevitably, mayhem ensues.
Finally, Interstellar is set in a future where the Earth has been ravaged by famine, drought and extreme climate change and humans face extinction. But when a rip in the space-time continuum is discovered, there is new hope that a group of explorers can find a new planet that can sustain life. But as the crew of the Endurance set out, it is discovered that through the wormhole, one hour is the equivalent of seven years back on Earth, so they have to work quickly if they are to be successful.
Sensory friendly environment
Autism Friendly Screenings are mainstream films shown in a sensory friendly environment. Lights are on low, sound is turned down, trailers are omitted and people can bring their own food, make noise and move around the cinema as they feel comfortable.
