Motorway services operator Welcome Break has installed Changing Places toilets at a number of its services to ensure that anyone who would need the help of a carer to go to the toilet now has suitable facilities.
The Changing Places toilets have currently been installed at Membury, South Mimms (pictured), Hopwood and Gordano and will be installed at Corley in the near future. Changing Place toilets are a special facility for those who have learning disabilities or are severely disabled. They include a height-adjustable changing bed and ceiling tracking hoist, as well as additional space and a peninsular toilet with space for carers on either side.
Standard accessible toilets often do not have enough room for two people with an electric wheelchair, and there have often been cases of carers having to change continence pads on the floor. Changing Places toilets ensure that carers can change continence pads and give the necessary support to their family member, friend or charge.
