Susan Boyle reveals Asperger’s syndrome diagnosis

Susan Boyle Singer Susan Boyle, who shot to fame on TV talent show Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, has revealed that she has recently been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome.

The Scottish star, 52, has admitted to being relived to finally having a clearer understanding of her condition, having believed for many years that she had suffered slight brain damage at birth.

In an interview with The Observer newspaper, Boyle said her diagnosis “… will not make any difference to my life.

“Asperger’s doesn’t define me. It’s a condition that I have to live with and work through, but I feel more relaxed about myself. People will have a greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do.”

Boyle added that she had always known that brain damage: “was an unfair label. Now I have a clearer understanding of what’s wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself.”

Since appearing on Britain’s Got Talent, Boyle has gone on to be one of the UK’s biggest-selling female artists with several multi-platinum albums and has recently filmed a cameo in the film The Christmas Candle.
