A new care company, HC-One, has launched having taken over the running of a third of the care homes across the UK formerly run by Southern Cross Healthcare, and has pledged to become the “kindest” operator in the UK (3rd November 2011).
On Tuesday, HC-One formally began providing care to some 10,600 residents living in 241 homes – including 9 learning disability homes – with just under 14,400 former Southern Cross employees having transferred to the new company, including every member of home staff.
HC-One has been created by property investment group NHP – which owns the 241 homes – and health and social care organisation turnaround specialist Court Cavendish.
The organisation’s executive board includes Anne Williams CBE, who was until recently the Department of Health’s national director for learning disabilities in England.
Dr Chai Patel, chairman of HC-One, said: “After months of uncertainty for residents, relatives and staff we are delighted and honoured to be starting this new era.
“The HC-One board and management team have many years of experience in successfully managing care homes, and we want HC-One homes to be the kindest in the UK, with the kindest and most professional staff where each and every one matters and each and every one can make a difference.
“Looking ahead we are committed to improving the quality of services and properties, retaining and developing the kindest and best staff, and improving the occupancy in our homes. Those are our goals and that is our promise.”
