Grace Eyre receives funding for Travel Buddy scheme

Grace Eyre, a Sussex-based charity supporting people with learning disabilities and mental health support needs, has received a Big Lottery grant that will enable it to continue to develop its Travel Buddy scheme.

The Travel Buddy scheme, which has been established for more than 4 years, offers training and support to people with learning disabilities to travel independently within their local communities. The scheme also looks to recruit volunteers with disabilities to hopefully improve their future opportunities for employment.

Grace Eyre has established strong partnerships with local transport providers in Brighton and Hove and the Travel Buddy scheme will continue to promote the use of public transport to ensure vulnerable people have the skills and confidence to travel independently and are less socially isolated.

Eva Jarvis, Grace Eyre’s chief executive, said: “This exciting new Big Lottery grant will offer opportunities over the next three years for individuals to travel to work, go out on a date, to the gym, cinema, shopping and simply travel independently to where they need to go.”
