Free online SEND workshop for young people with profound learning needs

The UK Parliament Education and Engagement team have launched a free online workshop, allowing students with SEND to use their senses to explore Parliament, find out who works there and what they do.

The workshops are aimed at young people with profound learning needs aged seven to 25 years old and are designed to be run by teachers in classrooms.

The sessions are based around a poem which will guide the students, using rhyme, repetition and actions around the building.

Students will also be able to use objects from within the classroom in order to bring smells, sounds and textures to life.

SEND workshop due to begin in April 2022

A pre-session activity is available to help introduce the students to Parliament, where they will be given the opportunity to virtually meet their presenters in advance to help prepare them for the session.

The workshops are due to begin in April 2022 and will be offered on Tuesdays at 10am or 2pm and they generally last 30 minutes to one hour, with the intention of being as flexible as possible within the set timeframe.

The Education and Engagement team say they are committed to working closely with teachers to inform the sessions to meet the needs of the students participating.
