The UK’s first-ever surfing competition exclusively for people with learning disabilities is to take place in June.
The Wave Project Surf Challenge will take place from 10am on June 22 at Fistral Beach in Newquay in Devon. The event is being supported by The Wave Project, a volunteer-led organisation that uses surfing and the natural environment as a source of therapy for young people with complex needs. The project runs evidence-based projects which are proven to boost emotional wellbeing.
Surfing GB, Cornwall Council, Surf Relief UK, Volunteer Cornwall and the UK Pro Surf Tour are also supporting the event. The competition is open for people aged 8 upwards, with no upper age limit. It is open to people of all abilities, from beginner to advanced.
