Aspiring artists now have less than 2 weeks to submit their entries to this year’s Create! Art for Autism competition.
The competition is open to all young people aged 11-25 years with a formal diagnosis of an autistic spectrum condition (ASC), including Asperger’s syndrome. Artists have until May 18 to submit their entries.
Create! Art for Autism aims to dispel the myth that people with autism cannot be creative and to show that art can significantly improve their quality of life, instil life-long skills and help with learning. The competition, now in its second year, also highlights that art and creativity can greatly enhance the ability to communicate for young people with an ASC who previously struggled to express themselves.

There is also a People’s Choice award, the winner of which will be voted for by the readers of the Times Educational Supplement. Judges for Create! Art for Autism include television personalities Jane Asher and Gaby Roslin, as well as Mark Lever, chief executive of the National Autistic Society. Finalists will be invited to attend an awards ceremony in Cardiff in July, where the winners of each category will be announced.
The finalists’ artwork will then be rolled out into a national art tour across four UK cities – Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham and London.
