A residential social care service for adults aged 18 and over has been opened in Stockport as part of a pathway into independent living by health care services provider Cygnet Health Care.
The service at Springside Stockport is designed to support young adults with autism, learning disabilities and/or complex and challenging behaviours, and who require further development of their social and communication skills in order to move into supported living.
The Young Adults Residential Transition Service will aid in this process, as residents will be developing the skills required to live as independently as possible. The service will include in-house qualifications to provide service users with the tools they need to live independently.
Voluntary work and employment
Cygnet will also collaborate with local colleges, disability employment services and service users to help prepare them for voluntary work and employment. Occupational therapy, psychology and speech and language therapy will also be available, albeit on a sessional basis.
The resident’s length of stay will be determined by the service user, care coordinator, support team and family, who will all work together with a view to helping the individual’s transition into supported or independent living placements.
