Care regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has released another 10 inspection reports into learning disability residential facilities and found serious concerns at 3 locations.
Only 1 facility was found to be fully compliant. The reports are the final batch to be released, concluding the CQC’s programme of 150 unannounced inspections of learning disability hospitals and care homes.
Inspections focused on 2 outcomes relating to the Government’s essential standards of quality and safety: the care and welfare of people who use services, and safeguarding people who use services from abuse. The three facilities where major concerns were found were:
All the above services have told the CQC how and when they will improve. If they fail to make improvements, they could face enforcement action from the regulator. Only Constance House Hospital in London, which is run by Curo Care, was compliant with both standards.
Overall, 1 location was compliant with the care and welfare outcome, 2 were found to have minor concerns, 5 had moderate concerns and 2 had major concerns. In regard to the safeguarding outcome, 4 locations were found to be compliant; there was a minor concern at 1 facility, moderate concerns at 3 and major concerns at 2.
The CQC will now produce a national report based on the findings from all the 150 inspections, which will make conclusions about the overall state of this type of service.
