Charity worker with learning disabilities enjoys party at the Palace

Lorainne BellamyA woman with learning disabilities attended the annual Buckingham Palace Garden Party recently in recognition of her work with learning disability charity Mencap over the past 31 years.

Lorainne Bellamy was invited to the garden party by Mencap’s patron, Her Royal Highness Sophie, Countess of Wessex, in recognition of her hard work to support people with a learning disability during her time at the charity.

Bellamy had a great time. She said: “The whole day was brilliant and I couldn’t believe my luck, it was a bit overwhelming but everybody was just so nice and pleasant. It was the best day I’ve ever had!

“The Queen, Charles and Camilla were there. Kate [Duchess of Cambridge] was there too and I really liked her canary yellow outfit and she looked really happy talking to the people.

“I really liked the music there and I was humming along. And the band played Ricky Martin, which I loved. I got my picture taken with one of the Beefeaters too.”

In preparation for the big event, Bellamy received a complimentary blow dry at top London salon Taylor Taylor in Shoreditch, and was treated to a make-over by Bobbi Brown make-up artist Lisa Hewlett.

Bellamy said: “I’ve never been pampered before in my life. It was brilliant!”
