Campaign launched that focuses on what people with disabilities can do

Papworth Trust I canA new campaign has been launched in which people with physical and/or learning disabilities highlight their abilities.

Disability charity Papworth Trust is behind the ‘I can’ campaign, which features a television advertisement, as well as posters on billboards and leaflets.

Famous people fronting the campaign include Professor Stephen Hawking, musician Dame Evelyn Glennie, quadruple amputee and mountaineer Jamie Andrew, and Paralympians Jonnie Peacock, Pam Relph and Fran Williamson.

The campaign also highlights those who are not in the public eye, such as 8-year-old Brendan, who has Down’s syndrome and autism, who stars in the TV advert and poster campaign.

“Having a disability is all about what you can do,” said Peacock.

Papworth Trust’s director of strategy and marketing, David Martin, said: “We are really proud that so many inspirational people have joined us to spread the message of our I can campaign. They are great examples for being seen for what they can do and are an inspiration to us all.

“What drives us all here at Papworth Trust is the passion to work with disabled people to create a world where we are seen for what we can do, working together for equality, choice and independence.”
