Summer blockbusters The BFG and Finding Dory are among the August Autism Friendly Films line-up, service provider Dimensions has announced.
The BFG will be shown at selected Cineworld cinemas on Sunday, August 7 at 11am.
On the following Sunday, starting at 10am, selected Showcase cinemas will show Finding Dory. ODEON cinemas will also be playing Finding Dory on the same day, but beginning at 11.30am.
On Monday, August 15, 9 selected ODEON cinemas will show Jason Bourne (12a) at 6pm, as part of its ongoing trial screenings for older audiences.
Film lovers will also have the opportunity to see autism-friendly screenings of The BFG, The Secret Life of Pets and Ice Age, among others, as part of ODEON’s summer of films. Click here for more details.
Finally, The Angry Birds Movie will be shown at selected Vue cinemas on Sunday, August 28 at 10am.
The BFG is a Steven Spielberg-directed big-screen adaptation of Roald Dahl’s much-loved children’s book of the same name. It tells the story of Sophie, who meets a giant that, rather than being a terrifying child-eater, is actually gentle and charming. However, as Sophie and the Big Friendly Giant’s friendship grows, it attracts the attention of other giants, who are not as friendly. Sophie and the BFG end up traveling to London, to try and convince the Queen to help them get rid of all the bad giants once and for all.
Meanwhile, Disney Pixar’s Finding Dory is the long-awaited sequel to Finding Nemo. This time, the story centres on Dory, the forgetful blue tang fish. While she experiences memory loss every 10 seconds or so, one thing she can remember is being separated from her parents as a child. So, with the help of friends Nemo and Marlin, Dory goes on a quest to find her parents. Her adventure takes her to the Marine Life Institute, a conservatory that houses a myriad of ocean species – including Dory’s parents. Can Dory free them from captivity and have the family reunion she dreams of?
The Angry Birds Movie is an animated comedy based on the popular game of the same name and provides the answer to why the birds are so angry. When a paradise island populated by flightless birds is visited by mysterious green piggies, it is up to 3 outsiders – Red, Chuck and Bomb – to find out what they are up to.
Finally, for older viewers, Jason Bourne picks up the story of the former CIA assassin several years on from The Bourne Ultimatum. Bourne resurfaces at a time of global instability, trying to find truths about his past and remember who he truly is. But at the same time a new programme has been created to hunt him down.
Sensory friendly environment
Autism Friendly Screenings are mainstream films shown in a sensory friendly environment. Lights are on low, sound is turned down, trailers are omitted and people can bring their own food, make noise and move around the cinema as they feel comfortable.
