Learning Disability Today
Supporting professionals working in learning disability and autism services

Avenues

We are a charity specialising in supporting autistic people, people with learning disability, acquired brain injury and complex support needs to enjoy fulfilling lives where they live.

We support around 650 people with social care across the South East, West Midlands, London and East of England.

We believe that people need to live in the place they call home, with the people and things that matter to them, in communities that look out for one another, doing the things they love.

We have a core belief in community-based support, driven by our vision that everyone should have the opportunity to be an active citizen and engaged in the community where they live.

Our mission is to challenge and overcome the disadvantage people face through illness, injury, and disability.

We listen to people’s families and friends and create trusted support that really connects them to their community, building their independence and wellbeing.

Avenues Group operates on a not-for-profit basis, with financial surpluses reinvested into the services we provide.

Most of our services are based around ‘supported living’ where people have their own apartments or shared homes.

Our expertise enables us to offer people the right level of support at the right times so they can develop or retain maximum independence throughout life. We also offer supplementary knowledge in areas including mental health conditions, dementia and end of life care.

While our support changes as people’s lives change, it’s always fundamentally based in the principles of Active Support and Positive Behaviour Support.

We regularly work with other organisations to maintain our standards. These include BILD, The Tizard Centre, one of the leading academic groups in learning disability, Surrey Positive Behaviour Support Network, Kent Challenging Behaviour Network, The National Institute for Clinical Excellence and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) among others. In addition, we offer extensive training and development for all our employees.

Our core values are:

  • Respect: We treat people as we would wish to be treated ourselves.
  • Excellence: We don’t settle for okay, we are determined to achieve more.
  • Integrity: We do the right thing, even if it takes more time and effort.
  • Pride: The work we do is something we want to tell others we are part of.

In November 2023, we welcomed Autism Hampshire to Avenues Group, bringing additional autism expertise and a new range of services to the organisation.
It is our shared expectation that all our social care services maintain a Good or Outstanding overall rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which is the regulator for social care in the UK.

Our operational subsidiaries are:

  • Avenues East
