A group of people with learning disabilities are turning their love of crafting into a business by opening a new shop in Whittlesey town centre.
The shop, called 82 Crafts and Creations, is situated at 3 Eastgate Mews and will open to the public from Friday, December 9. The group, who will gain vital employment skills in the venture, are opening the shop in partnership with Thera East Anglia, a non-profit organisation which supports people with a learning disability.
82 Crafts and Creations will offer an array of products they have made just in time for Christmas, along with supplies for people to make their own craft items.
The group will receive payment for any sales of their individually-crafted items. They have also set up business agreements with local crafters so they have an outlet in which to showcase and sell their works.
The shop will operate on a non-profit basis: any profits made will be re-invested into the business to provide more work-based opportunities for people with a learning disability.
On its launch day, the shop will be open from 9.30am until 8.30pm. After this, the shop will open every Monday to Saturday, 9.30am – 3.30pm.
