CQC publishes more reports on learning disability services

Care regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published 10 more reports from its inspection of 150 learning disability hospitals and care homes and found no major concerns at any of the facilities.

• 163 Durham Road, Stockton-on-Tees
• Berrywood Hospital, Duston, Northampton
• Burston House, Diss, Norfolk
• Fieldhead Hospital, Wakefield
• Greenways, Macclesfield
• Hallam Street Hospital, West Bromwich
• Hazelwood House, Chesterfield
• Heath Lane Hospital, West Bromwich
• Lombard House, Little Ellingham, Attleborough, Norfolk
• Westridge Assessment and Treatment Service, Stoenhouse, Gloucestershire.

Inspections were focused on 2 outcomes relating to the government’s essential standards of quality and safety: the care and welfare of people who use services, and safeguarding people who use services from abuse. Of the 10:

• Four locations were compliant with both outcomes (although 2 have been told to make improvements to make sure they continue to comply)
• Two locations had moderate concerns with both outcomes
• No major concerns were found at any of the locations.

Specifically, in relation to the care and welfare of people who use services, 4 locations were compliant, 1 had minor concerns and 5 had moderate concerns. In relation to safeguarding, 8 locations were compliant and two had moderate concerns. Where inspectors identified concerns, they were raised immediately with the providers and managers of services. All the services where concerns are identified must tell the CQC how and when they will improve. Those failing to meet essential standards could face enforcement action if improvements are not made.
