Animated sequels Despicable Me 2 and Sammy’s Great Escape are to be the next Autism Friendly Films, to be shown at ODEON, Cineworld and – for the first time – Vue cinemas in the coming month.
Despicable Me 2 will be shown at more than 90 ODEON cinemas on Sunday, June 30 at 11.30am. The film will also be shown on Sunday, July 7 at 11am at 53 Cineworld cinemas.
Meanwhile, Sammy’s Great Escape will be shown at 78 Vue cinemas on Sunday, June 30 at 10am. It will only cost children £1.75 – Vue’s regular Kids AM price – to get in to see this because it is an older film.
In family comedy Despicable Me 2, Gru – the former villain now enjoying life as a father to his three adopted daughters – is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a powerful new super criminal.
Sammy’s Great Escape follows two feisty leatherback turtles from their home ocean to imprisonment in an aquarium and finally to freedom. It is the follow-up to the 2010 film A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s adventures.
Sensory friendly environment
Autism Friendly Screenings are mainstream films shown in a sensory friendly environment. Lights are on low, sound is turned down, trailers are omitted and people can bring their own food, make noise and move around the cinema as they feel comfortable. The scheme is run by service provider Dimensions.
