Local Area Coordination and Self-Directed Support.

Scottish Consortium for Learning Disability, 2014

The Self-Directed Support Act becomes law on 1st April 2014. This means that all councils in Scotland have a duty to offer anyone assessed as needing social care 4 options to choose from when deciding how they want to receive care and support.

The 4 options are:

• The individual takes a direct payment
• The individual chooses who they want to support them and the council arranges it
• The council chooses and arranges the individual’s support
• A mixture of all the above

SCLD wanted to know what Local Area Coordinators (LACs) think about Self-Directed Support (SDS). This report is based on interviews with LACs about their involvement with, and views on, SDS.
