The founder of a youth organisation supporting Syrian refugees and other minority groups was among the winners at Scotland’s first national Learning Disability Awards.
Prizes recognising talent, achievement and accomplishments were handed out in seven categories at the ceremony at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow.
Among the winners was 26-year-old Kirsty Allan from Lanarkshire, nominated after establishing a youth group that supports minority groups including Syrian refugees.
She said: “I felt excited when my name was called out as the winner of the award. I really enjoy helping other people.”
The event was hosted by the Scottish Commission for Learning Disability on Friday (May 19).

“The Learning Disability Awards represent a shift towards recognising the achievements of people who rarely have a platform,” said organiser Lisa Clark.
